About the Business
On leaving school I became an apprentice engineer with BT. I spent a number of years in that job before re-training as an accountant with the UK Government. What this means is that if you engage me you get an accountant who has worked out there in 'the real world', getting my hands dirty and finding out at the sharp end that what seems clever in an office isn't always so smart on the front line. One of the first things I learned as a BT engineer is that even if the cable has 2,000 pairs of wires you are only working with 1 pair of wires at a time. This is a lesson I apply when faced with complex problems and I find it still works.
Of course, you're looking for an accountant, not an engineer, and here I can offer a wide range of experience. Among other things, I have been involved in post project review of costs for major projects, been the Head of Finance for a worldwide transport review, and accounted for the 2nd biggest rail network in the UK (only British Rail were bigger).
